Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimal configuration for VR-Render WLE?
VR-Render is a 3D medical image visualization software.
Due to the important size of 3D medical images and the 3D rendering function of VR-Render WLE, you need a computer with a minimum of 2 Go of RAM and a graphic card supporting Open GL 1.2.
When you use VR-Render, you must have at least 600 Mo of free RAM. This means that if you have only 2 Go of RAM, you can have memories limitation due to other running softwares.
In practice, we recommend to have 3 Go or more RAM memories on current OS and to close other running softwares if you load several medical images.
On my MacOS, VR-Render WLE does not start when I try to download an image
After installation of VR-Render WLE, YOU MUST start one time the software before to download any images. It is required to RECORD YOUR PREFERENCES. Without it, VR-Render WLE will not start automatically when you download an image.
When I click on a patient, VR-Render WLE does not start automatically but a message appears asking me to choose between using a web service to find the appropriate software or selecting a software in the installed software list. What shall I do to avoid this problem?
This problem can appear under Windows 7 just after the installation of VR-Render WLE.
The simplest solution consists in selecting VR-Render WLE in the installed software list.
This list will then show you VR-Render-WLE as a first choice.
Click on the VR-Render WLE icon and validate your choice.
VR-Render WLE will be automatically associated for all future images.
On Windows, after the loading of one patient, I cannot load a second patient. The message “Another VR-Render-WeBSurg-LE instance is already running, aborting.” appears in a window. What can I do?
This limit appears only under Windows. There are only two solutions.
The first one consists in closing the opened VR-Render WLE before clicking on a new patient.
The second one consists in recording on your hard-drive the patient data and loading it from VR-Render WLE by using the “Import VR-Render Data button” of the tool bar.
The following link gives you information on the loading process:

What can I do when I load a second patient after the loading of a first patient to see him/her on my screen? Indeed, the new loaded patient does not appear automatically!
When you load a new patient, he/she is added to the patient's list that you can display by using the “Show patient information” button on the tool bar or by using the F12 shortcut.
The following link gives you information on the selection process:

3D modelling of patient are performed in the IRCAD R&D Computer Science department (http://www.ircad.fr/recherche/rd/rd.php?lng=en) using the VR-Anat software developed by IRCAD.
Currently, an online 3D modelling service is under evaluation.
However, such service should not be free of charge. If you are interested in such a service, please send us your request(s) using the following email address: rd-support-vrrender@ircad.fr.
How Can I report bug or request new features?
You can send a message to the following email address: rd-support-vrrender@ircad.fr
You can have trouble with VR-Render WLE when:
Your computer OS is Snow Leopard
VR-Render WLE has not been updated for this new OS.
Your computer OS has not enough RAM
Classical recent OS such as VISTA or Windows 7 use a lot of memories. Moreover, computer frequently starts several invisible software that will also use a large amount of memory. If you do not have enough RAM, VR-Render will not be able to load any medical image nor their 3D models.
We recommend you to use a computer with a minimum of 3 Go RAM. Under windows XP, 2 Go can be sufficient. To avoid any problem, 4 Go is perfect.
