Laparoscopic transgastric resection of a cardial stromal tumor

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. They may arise anywhere along the gastrointestinal tract but they are most commonly found in the stomach and small intestine. Nevertheless, cardial GISTs are rare and described in less than 5% of patients. Although for small tumors, an endoscopic resection is potentially feasible, surgery remains the principal and only potentially curative treatment for localized resectable primary disease. This video shows an intragastric laparoscopic-assisted resection of a 3cm GIST at the level of the cardia.

Abstract
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. They may arise anywhere along the gastrointestinal tract but they are most commonly found in the stomach and small intestine. Nevertheless, cardial GISTs are rare and described in less than 5% of patients. Although for small tumors, an endoscopic resection is potentially feasible, surgery remains the principal and only potentially curative treatment for localized resectable primary disease. This video shows an intragastric laparoscopic-assisted resection of a 3cm GIST at the level of the cardia.
